2016 Fantasy Baseball Closer Depth Chart

Keep this page bookmarked throughout the baseball season to see which closer has the job for each Major League team, as well as who would be next in line in case of injury or ineffectiveness by the current 9th inning guy.

Closer News

-In one of the stranger turns of events, Milwaukee closer contender Will Smith injured a knee ligament taking his shoes off and will miss a significant amount of time. That should hand the job to Jeremy Jeffress and makes Corey Knebel a name you need to know as a backup

Aroldis Chapman has been suspended for 30 games which gives Andrew Miller short term life as a starter. It has already been said that Chapman will assume the role as soon as the suspension is lifted, and he should be amazing again this year.

-In Toronto, the Blue Jays did the right thing in naming Roberto Osuna their closer. I thought that Drew Storen would be the guy because of his experience and the fact that Toronto actually traded for him. Osuna is the better option, and a top 15 closer in my book.

Can Tony Cingrani win the closer’s job in Cincinnati? Fantasy owners should flock to him if he does

-In Tampa Bay, Brad Boxberger has an injured abdomen and will miss the first five to six weeks of the season. In the meantime I am looking towards Alex Colome as the guy who will get saves for the Rays, but Danny Farquhar could be in the mix as well. Colome has better stuff, Farquhar has more experience.

-In Cincinnati, J.J. Hoover has been named the favorite to land the ninth inning job for a terrible Reds team. He would be a guy who you roster just because he will get you saves, but the rest of his numbers will be average.  I still love Tony Cingrani for the job as a guy who could be dominant and actually carry fantasy value as a closer for a bad team.
