The 2023 Fantasy Football Impact:
Michael Wilson
Leading up to the NFL Draft, many speculated new GM Monti Ossenfort would trade All-Pro DeAndre Hopkins in exchange for much-needed picks for a struggling franchise. Instead, the only announcement that came from Arizona was a statement of a settlement with the Philadelphia Eagles over violations of illegal contact with then-Eagles DC Jonathan Gannon right before Super Bowl LVII.
Hopkins wound up staying put in Arizona, for now. He is reaching the end of his tenure with the team, so it was no surprise the Cardinals used a third-round pick on his possible replacement in Michael Wilson. Wilson has some serious WR2 appeal, especially if Hopkins does eventually get traded or misses time for any reason. Wilson has an ideal combination of size and speed the NFL teams search for with his 6-foot-2' and 213 lb. frame with 4.5 speed.
Wilson slipped into the third round simply due to the fact he only played 14 games over the last two seasons at Stanford. The talented receiver was productive when he was on the field, however. Stanford used him all over the field including vertical routes and quick screens in space. He's a very interesting name to look out for in the preseason.
It's not a secret Arizona is not set up for success in 2023, but that shouldn't shy fantasy managers away from potential fantasy goodness. This time last season, we were not even considering Seattle wide receivers. but look where DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett finished with Geno Smith.
