2023 NFL Draft Recap: Denver Broncos

The 2023 NFL Draft has concluded after months of scrutiny about these prospects, potential landing spots, team and scheme fits, and so on. Now we get to start the entire process all over again now that we have team landing spots for these college prospects with their new NFL teams.

Today, we tackle the Denver Broncos and how they fared in the 2023 NFL Draft.

Denver's 2023 NFL Draft Selections:

  • Round 2, Pick 63 - Marvin Mims, WR, Oklahoma
  • Round 3, Pick 67 - Drew Sanders, LB, Alabama
  • Round 3, Pick 84 - Riley Moss, CB, Iowa
  • Round 6, Pick 183 - JL Skinner, S, Boise State
  • Round 7, Pick 257 - Alex Forsyth, C, Oregon

The 2023 Fantasy Football Impact:

In Sean Payton’s first draft with the Denver Broncos, I was anxious to see the direction they would go. We know how involved Payton is in the scouting and draft process, so it was interesting to see what the relationship with general manager George Paton would look like. The Broncos had limited draft capital and all signs were pointing to the team looking for a trade partner to move back in the draft. Then, the Payton/Paton tandem made the move up to secure Oklahoma WR Marvin Mims.

Mims has been one of the more underrated wide receiver prospects in this draft process. Mims possesses some of the best advanced metrics in the class. Although one of the many undersized receivers in this class, Mims has elite speed in the 94th percentile, is 96th percentile in breakout age, and is 94th percentile in Yards Per Reception in his college career. He had three productive seasons in Norman before being an early declare and receiving second-round draft capital as the 63rd-overall selection.

It is a crowded receiver room at the moment, with new teammates Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy, Tim Patrick, and KJ Hamler still on the roster. I expect to see Denver move one of these playmakers to make room for Mims. The most likely candidate for that is Hamler, but we’ll see how things play out. It’s important to keep in mind that in Sean Payton’s first draft with limited draft picks, they chose to move up for Mims. Payton got his guy and he will find a way to get him on the field.

Mims is an excellent value in rookie drafts at the moment, so take advantage while you can.
