Cash Club:

6:05 Braves at Phillies

Newcomb 0-1 6.57 vs Nola 0-1 3.97

Harper 3/9 2 HR

Acuna 7/20 2 HR

Duvall 6/18

Ozuna 7/25 2 HR

Markakis 10/35 2 HR

Current Phillies are just 8/56 against Newcomb.

Too many spots for Nola to trip up against this Braves lineup PLUS the Braves lineup has scored 87 runs this season – tied for the most in all of baseball.

7:10 Nationals at Mets

Corbin 1-0 3.00 vs Matz 0-2 5.65

Conforto 8/22 5 HR

Davis 6/20 3 HR

Alonso 5/17 1 HR

Castro 8/25 1 HR

Eaton 4/13

Harrison 5/10 1 HR

Soto 6/13

Turner 8/27 3 Doubles

Corbin’s last start came on 8/4 against the Mets, he went 5.2 IP with 8ks and the Nats won 5-3.  Decent option here.  The Mets will score and get hits of lefties but Corbin should still be an effective start.

I’m staying away from Matz.  He only lasted 3 innings vs the Nats his last time out on 8/4 and gave up 7 hits and 5 runs to the worst run score team in the league – 32 runs – the only team worse are the Cardinals, who have only played 5 games.

7:10 White Sox at Tigers

Keuchel 2-1 2.55 vs Fulmer 0-0 13.50

Romine 4/8 2 Doubles

Abreu 6/17 1 HR

Mazara 5/9 1 HR

Tigers actually have the highest OPS in all of baseball against left handed pitching…doesn’t bode well for Keuchel here.

This is Fulmer’s start since July 27th when the Royals blitzed him for 3 home runs in the first 3 innings.  The rookie season when he went 11-7 with a 3.06 and 1.12 ERA/WHIP combo seems like a decade ago now.

7:30 Rays at Red Sox

Yarborough 0-2 3.78 vs TBD

Chavis 6/8 2 HR

Devers 5/13 1 HR

Martinez 8/14 4 Doubles 1 HR

Vazquez 6/16 2 HR

An opportunity for some of the Red Sox hitters to get out of their season long slumps vs Yarborough today.  You can roll the dice if you think Yarborough will keep them down.

Red Sox starter not announced as of publishing.

8:10 Twins at Brewers

Dobnak 2-0 0.60 vs Houser 1-0 0.75

No H2H history vs either of these starters.

Dobnak has been really good but I worry that he isn’t missing many bats – 7 strike outs in 15 innings pitched.  Good news is that these Brewers have scored the 7th fewest runs this year and they have the 7th worst OPS vs Right handed pitching.  It LOOKS like another good start for Dobnak.

Houser surprised with 7 shut-out innings vs the White Sox back on 8/5 and now he gets a dangers Twins team.  Can he do it twice?  I’m skeptical and staying away.

8:40 Diamondbacks at Rockies

Ray 1-2 9.45 vs Gray 0-1 3.31

Arenado 14/41 3 HR

Blackmon 20/46 5 HR

Kemp 7/18 2 HR

Murphy 4/12 1 HR

Story 7/26 2 HR

K. Marte 6/16 1 HR

Peralta 9/21

Escobar 3/9 1 HR

Based on the H2H I smell a lot of runs here.  I’d advise staying away from both starters.

9:05 Mariners at Rangers

Dunn 0-1 6.43 vs Gibson 0-1 2.45

No history vs Dunn.

Seager 6/23

Vogelbach 4/5 1 HR

Texas has the 2nd worst OPS vs right handed pitching this season and have scored the 3rd fewest runs vs righties.  Dunn hasn’t been great but this is a opportunity for him to pitch well.  I’d advise to watch this start closely, struggles here would be telling.

Walks and errors did Gibson in back in his first start of the season and the long ball did him in vs the A’s last time out.  I’d avoid until the mistakes get cleaned up.

9:10 Giants at Astros

TBD vs McCullers 1-1 9.22

Not enough data vs McCullers.

Giants starter not announced as of publishing.

Not messing around with McCullers until he gets it together.  Hasn’t pitched well in any of his 3 starts.

9:40 Padres at Dodgers

Richards 0-1 4.60 vs May 1-0 2.63

Not enough good hitter data vs Richards or May

Current Dodgers are a combined 8/48 with just 1 HR vs Richards.  Does that streak continue or get bucked?  Dodgers got to him last time out on 8/5 with 4 ER in 5 IP.  I think that happens again today.

May went out and had his best outing of his young career against the Padres last time out – 6 IP, 8 Ks, 2 ER, 3 H.  Now the Padres are hot and tearing the cover off the ball.  If you love May, go with it, but I’d be worried he won’t be able to replicate that last start.

9:40 Athletics at Angels

Manaea 0-2 8.03 vs Teheran 0-1 6.75

Trout 7/19 3 HR

Not enough data vs Teheran (Olson 0/3, Piscotty 2/2, Davis 2/11 2 HR, Barreto 1/2 – that’s it)

The good news is that Manaea isn’t walking guys – just 1 in 12.1 IP but he’s giving up too many hits, 17.  Stay away.

Until Teheran shows me anything I’ve got no interest.
