Predict the Pick: A One Man's Mock Draft

Predicting the draft is no easy task. Just ask any draft guru on television or other media outlets, no one really knows what’s real news or smoke screens at this time of year. One thing I’m sure of is that all experts will agree that mock drafts are fun to do. The NFL Draft is a three-day event that all football fans hope and pray that their favorite NFL team makes all the right moves and picks so that they have something to look forward to and root for come this fall. Me personally as a torn fan having a rooting interest for both the Dolphins and 49ers. I will be glued to the television as both of these clubs have been wheeling and dealing prior to the draft and have high picks come Thursday night. Therefore, without further ado here is my mock draft for the 2021 NFL Draft.

Pick 1: Jacksonville Jaguars - Trevor Lawerence, QB Clemson

After years of searching for a franchise quarterback, the Jaguars finally get their man and will start the Urban Meyer era with a bang!

Pick 2: New York Jets - Zach Wilson, QB Brigham Young

With the departure of Sam Darnold, the Jets cleared the way for the talented young quarterback to take the wheel and hope to have the team soaring once again.

Pick 3: San Francisco - 49ers Mac Jones, QB Alabama

As I kneel here and pray for the 49ers to draft either Justin Fields or Trey Lance, the rumor mill is starting to build up more steam that Mac Jones is heading to the Niners. Get your popcorn ready because this pick will cause a chain reaction to how the rest of the draft will continue.

Pick 4: Atlanta Falcons - Justin Fields, QB Ohio State

The Falcons are more than likely going to select Kyle Pitts here but if Justin Fields falls to them drafting the heir apparent to Matt Ryan may be ro hard to resist.

Pick 5: Cincinnati Bengals - Penei Sewell, OT Oregon

If Pitts falls here to the Bengals they will be tempted but their number one priority is protecting Joe Burrow and drafting Penei Sewell will do just that.

Pick 6: Miami Dolphins - Kyle Pitts, TE Florida

Speaking of praying, the Dolphins will add a new weapon for Tua Tagovailoa here, whether it's Pitts or Ja’Marr Chase. One of these studs should be wearing the aqua and teal by the end of the night.

Pick 7: Detroit Lions - Ja'Marr Chase, WR Louisiana State

Lose Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones, no problem. If Chase falls to this spot, the Lions should pounce to give Jared Goff a new toy to play with. Lions could also trade this pick for a quarterback-hungry team.

Pick 8: Carolina Panthers - Rashawn Slater, OT Northwestern

With the trade for Sam Darnold earlier this offseason, look for Carolina to add a new offensive tackle here to help keep their new investment safe.

Pick 9: Denver Broncos - Trey Lance, QB North Dakota State

The Broncos have been part of the rumor mill of teams attempting to possibly move up to draft a quarterback, they may find that one will fall right on their lap if Trey Lance gets passed on by the top seven picks.

Pick 10: Dallas Cowboys - Patrick Surtain II, CB Alabama

The Cowboys need major help in defending the pass and Patrick Surtain’s baby boy is ready to go and start from day one.

Pick 11: New York Giants - Jaylen Waddle, WR Alabama

First, the Giants added Vonny Holladay last month and now have the chance to add Jaylen Waddle. This team will be very dangerous. Oh yeah, this injured running back named Saquon Barkley also returns from injury this season as well.

Pick 12: Philadelphia Eagles - Devonta Smith, WR Alabama

The Eagles need to add a new receiver to the mix, to give Jalen Hurts another option to throw to. Devonta Smith will fit perfectly in this offense.

Pick 13: San Diego Chargers - Kwity Payne, DE Michigan

Pairing up Kwity Payne with Joey Bosa will provide the Chargers the firepower to bring the heat to opposing quarterbacks this upcoming season.

Pick 14: Minnesota Vikings - Alljah Vera-Tucker, OT Southern California

The Vikings need to shore up their line that will lead the way for Dalvin Cook to continue to work and be the heart and soul of this team.

Pick 15: New England Patriots - Micah Parsons, LB Penn State

Will Bill Belichek be bold and move up to get a quarterback. Nah he will make his defense better by drafting the Penn State product in this spot.

Pick 16: Arizona Cardinals - Jaycee Horn, CB South Carolina

The Cardinals need to find a replacement for long-time corner Patrick Peterson who is no longer on the team. Welcome to Arizona, Mr. Horn.

Pick 17: Las Vegas Raiders - J. Owusu-Koramoah, LB Norte Dame

The Raiders are in desperate need of some defensive help and the athletic J. Owusu-Koramoah will fit the bill quite nicely.

Pick 18: Miami Dolphins - Najee Harris, RB Alabama

The Dolphins may either look for offensive line reinforcement or a pass rusher here, but my hunch as I pray a couple of Our Fathers is that the Dolphins will select the number one running back in this class and reunite Najee Harris with his old college teammate.

Pick 19: Washington Football Team - Christian Darrisaw, OT Virginia Tech

The Washington Football Team would love to add a quarterback but unless they move up it ain’t happening at this spot. Therefore, improving the offensive line is just a high priority for Washington.

Pick 20: Chicago Bears - Teven Jenkins, OL Oklahoma State

The Bears are another team looking to move up for a quarterback but unless they ante up they too will be adding some offensive line help to protect the Red Rifle.

Pick 21: Indianapolis Colts - Jaelan Phillips, DE Miami

With the possible addition of Jaelan Phillips, the defensive pressure that he and Deforest Buckner will generate will bring some havoc for opposing offensive lines.

Pick 22: Tennessee Titans - Caleb Farely, CB Virginia Tech

The Titans get a chance to add a top-five cornerback talent who would only be available this late in the first round due to a second back surgery he had in March.

23: New York Jets - Greg Newsome II, CB Northwestern

New Jets Coach Robert Saleh gets to add a starter-ready cornerback with his second pick in the first round.

Pick 24: Pittsburgh Steelers - Jamin Davis, LB Kentucky

If Najee Harris happens to fall this far in the first round the Steelers will be all over him but if he’s gone they would draft this speedy linebacker to make their defense an unstoppable unit.

Pick 25: Jacksonville Jaguars - Trevon Moehrig, S Texas Christian

The Jaguars get to add the best safety in the draft who’s extremely versatile and can play all over the field.

Pick 26: Cleveland Browns - Azeez Ojulari,  DE Georgia

The Browns add a bookend to their already strong defensive line and opposite Miles Garrett.

Pick 27: Baltimore Ravens - Zaven Collins, LB Tulsa

The Tulsa linebacker helps fill a need for the Ravens. If a pass rusher happens to fall to the Ravens they may pull the trigger on that need as well.

Pick 28: New Orleans Saints - Asante Samuel Jr., CB Florida State

Drafting Asante Samuel Jr. will fill a huge void for the Saints who desperately in need of help at the cornerback position.

Pick 29: Green Bay Packers - Elijah Moore, WR Mississippi

Will the Packers finally draft a first-round receiving weapon for Aaron Rodgers probably not but if they do Elijah Moore will be that man.

Pick 30: Buffalo Bills - Joe Tyron, DE Washington

Hugh Douglass will get help on the other side of the defensive line that will help bring defensive pressure for the Bills.

Pick 31: Baltimore Ravens - Liam Eichenberg, OT Norte Dame

Ravens fans meet your new replacement for the recently departed Orlando Brown who was traded to the Chiefs earlier this month.

Pick 32: Tampa Bay - Buccaneers Jayson Oweh, DE Penn State

The reigning, defending, and undisputed champions’ defense only gets stronger with this selection.
