Survivor Pool: Week 11

We made it to Week 11 and somehow we're still alive. If you have survived this far you deserve a round of applause. But let's not celebrate too much because what lies ahead for us in order to make it to the end will be several obstacles. All we can do is take it one week at a time. Last week of all the favorites we discussed, only the Ravens who were favored on the road lost to the Patriots on Sunday night and let down the players that selected them. Hopefully, you listened and avoided that match-up. Let's see what potholes we have to avoid to survive Week 11.

Who to pick for Week 11

Oh boy, my pick last week decided to make me sweat it out a little bit in the beginning as I selected the Saints. The Saints went down early and were losing to the 49ers by 10, but Drew Brees was able to bring them back enough before he went down with a rib injury and was out for the rest of the game. Luckily Jameis Winston was able to hold the fort enough and I was able to get the win. Phew, another close call but we got by. Now here are the teams that are no longer options for me, the Bills, Packers, Colts, Rams, Cowboys, Dolphins, Chargers, Eagles, Chiefs, and Saints. Now let's check out what we have for Week 11.

  • Arizona Cardinals vs. Seattle Seahawks (-3, 58.5)
  • Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints (-7, 50.5)
  • Cincinnati Bengals vs. Washington Football Team (-1.5, 46.5)
  • Detroit Lions vs. Carolina Panthers (-3, 48)
  • New England Patriots vs. Houston Texans (+1, 48)
  • Philadelphia Eagles vs. Cleveland Browns (-2, 47.5)
  • Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (+10, 47.5)
  • Tennessee Titans vs. Baltimore Ravens (-6.5, 49)
  • Green Bay Packers vs. Indianapolis Colts (-2.5, 51)
  • New York Jets vs. Los Angeles Chargers (-8.5, 47.5)
  • Dallas Cowboys vs. Minnesota Vikings (-7, 49.5)
  • Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders (+7, 57)
  • Los Angeles Rams vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-3, 47.5)

Teams on bye:  Bills, Bears, Giants, 49ers

After evaluating this week's slate there are six teams that have favorable match-ups and are favored by at least (-6.5). These are the match-ups; the Saints at home favored by (-7) over the Falcons, the Steelers on the road favored by (-10) over the Jaguars, the Ravens at home favored by (-6.5) over the Titans, the Chargers at home favored by (-8.5) over the Jets, the Vikings at home favored by (-7) over the Cowboys, and the Chiefs on the road favored by (-7) over the Raiders.

The Saints just lost future Hall of Famer Drew Brees to cracked ribs and a punctured lung and now have Jameis Winston behind center. Only time will tell if Winston has corrected the turnover issues he had last season, but I'm not sure if you're willing to gamble on picking the Saints to find out. This game should be a shootout and there are reports that Calvin Ridley may return to the line-up this week and if that happens I would stay away from this option if you still have the Saints and hold them for another day.

The undefeated Steelers are heading to Jacksonville to tangle with the Jaguars. Ben Roethlisberger has the offense humming and the defense has been great this year. The Jaguars on the other hand have been in the Tanking for Trevor sweepstakes and have lost eight in a row, though they put up a great fight against the Packers last week. This could be a trap game for the Steelers who are facing the Ravens on Thanksgiving for Thursday Night Football. Being on the road is also a factor, but the Steelers are too good and are indeed a good option this week for those that still have them available.

The Ravens versus Titans match-up seems to be closer than what the oddsmakers think. Lamar Jackson has not played like his MVP self from last year and the Ravens just lost to the Patriots on the road. The Titans got smashed by the Colts last Thursday night and could be in store for another shellacking this week. Even though it should be a close one the Ravens are a decent pick this week.

The gimme of the week has to be the Chargers at home waiting with open arms for the Jets to come to town on Sunday. The Chargers just lost to the Dolphins on the road and look to get back on track this week and what better way to get rolling again than a game against the 0-9 Jets. Joe Flacco has already been confirmed to be behind center for Week 11. Prior to their bye last week, Flacco actually had the passing game going a little bit and almost pulled off an upset against the Patriots. Also, there is word from Jets camp that they will be giving La'Mical Perine more touches this week. Regardless, being at home and the Jets being the Jets, the Chargers are an excellent option this week if you still have them available.

The next contest to go over is the Vikings at home against the Cowboys, who are another team that is spirally down the rabbit hole. The Vikings have won three in a row and all three victories came against divisional opponents which include a couple of impressive road victories against the Packers and Bears. Now the Cowboys have been doing a little Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers action as they've been "Free Fallin" down the standings ever since Dak Prescott was lost for the season with a horrific right ankle injury. As of this writing, coach Mike McCarthy has still not named the starter this week for the Cowboys. I'm not sure it really matters who the starter is as Vikings are playing better football right now and should take this one. Could be a close one but the Vikings are a fine pick for this week as well.

The last game to discuss for Weel 11 is the Chiefs visiting divisional rival Raiders in Las Vegas. The Chiefs are coming off their bye rest and are ready to make a run at a repeat championship this year. The Chiefs are sporting an 8-1 record and their only blemish is a loss against the Broncos. The Raiders are also coming in hot with a three-game winning streak and have a 6-3 record. As good as the Chiefs are they are still on the road playing a home dog in prime time. If you have no other option you may pick the Chiefs but I would shy away from them if you can hold them for another upcoming game.

After debating between a couple of teams and looking into future teams' schedules, I will be picking the Steelers for Week 11.

Good luck to all this week and see you next Thursday when the week starts off with a tripleheader on Thanksgiving.
