Two Start Pitchers: 5/20-5/26

We've got a laundry list of two-start pitchers coming up this week for May 20th through May 26th, and here at Fighting Chance, we're going to sort through them so you don't have to! I've separated them into many different tiers. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you to start Trevor Bauer or Max Scherzer, but I did add some tidbits on those down the line if you're looking to differentiate between the options to add to your roster for the coming week. As always, please follow me on Twitter @ktompkinsii for any questions pertaining to lineups, roster decisions, or anything in between! Please also remember that all pitching matchups are tentative and can be moved at any point by their corresponding team. So without further adieu...

STUDS

Trevor Bauer, CLE (OAK, TB)

Justin Verlander, HOU (CHW, BOS)

Carlos Carrasco, CLE (OAK, TB)

Patrick Corbin, WAS (@ NYM, MIA)

Caleb Smith, MIA (@ DET, @ WAS)

Domingo German, NYY (@ BAL, @ KC)

Zack Greinke, ARI, (@ SD, @ SF)

German Marquez, COL (@ PIT, BAL)

German Marquez has a start at Coors, but the fact that it's the Indianapolis Indians (not convinced this is an MLB lineup) he's facing at the beginning of the week makes Marquez a must-start for this two-start period.

SOLID

Zack Wheeler, NYM (WAS, DET)

Jose Quintana, CHC (PHI, CIN)

Mike Soroka, ATL (@ SF, @ STL)

Jake Odorizzi, MIN (@ LAA, CHW)

J.A. Happ, NYY (@ BAL, @ KC)

Zack Wheeler faces two favorable offenses and even though he had a bit of a meltdown this past Thursday with his control, Wheeler should be a pretty confident rollout this week... Mike Soroka has been EXCELLENT, but imagine if he struck out more hitters. Two road starts are iffy, but one in San Francisco should balance out the one in Busch Stadium at the end of the week... J.A. Happ on the other hand, the K's have gone “bye-bye”. Strictly here for a juicy matchups even away from home... Also here for the matchups, Jake Odorizzi, who can only go up from here after a bad start, coincidentally against the same Angels, but this time, the matchup will be in Los Angeles. Or Anaheim. Or Disneyworld. Wherever they play now.

BORDERLINE

Jake Arrieta, PHI (@ CHC, @ MIL)

Eduardo Rodriguez, BOS (@ TOR, @ HOU)

Yu Darvish, CHC (PHI, CIN)

Marcus Stroman, TOR, (BOS, SD)

Matt Strahm, SD  (ARI, @ TOR)

Julio Teheran, ATL (@ SF, @ STL)

Chris Archer, PIT  (COL, LAD)

Wade Miley, HOU (CHW, BOS)

Which Yu Darvish will we get this week? The “walk the world” Darvish? Or the one we saw on Wednesday?... Chris Archer, he's on some treacherous ground. He's good for strikeouts, but that's about it right now... Speaking of uncertainty, has the other shoe dropped on Marcus Stroman? He had a nice start against the White Sox after some shaky ones, but I'm pretty sure I could toss a quality start against the Sox and I'm 35 and haven't pitched in a decade... Matt Strahm is one of my favorite pitchers of the moment, he's been fantastic aside from his first start of the season. With two plus matchups, he's my favorite of this tier.
