Two Start Pitchers for Week 6 (5/6/19 - 5/12/19)
We've got a laundry list of two-start pitchers coming up this week for April 29th through May 5th, and here at Fighting Chance, we're going to sort through them so you don't have to! However, for this laundry list, don't let your mom do it, because Mother's Day is coming up! Anyway, I've separated them into many different tiers. I'm sure you don't need me to tell you to start Trevor Bauer or Max Scherzer, but I did add some tidbits on those down the line if you're looking to differentiate between the options to add to your roster for the coming week. As always, please follow me on Twitter @ktompkinsii for any questions pertaining to lineups, roster decisions, or anything in between! Please also remember that all pitching matchups are tentative and can be moved at any point by their corresponding team. So without further adieu...
STUDS
Trevor Bauer, CLE (CHW, @OAK)
Gerrit Cole, HOU (KC, TEX)
Caleb Smith, MIA (@CHC, @NYM)
Max Scherzer, WAS (@MIL, @LAD)
Blake Snell, TB (ARI, NYY)
Stephen Strasburg, WAS (@MIL, @LAD)
Charlie Morton, TB (ARI. NYY)
Matthew Boyd, DET (LAA, @MIN)
Jacob deGrom, NYM (@SD, MIA)
Jose Berrios, MIN (@TOR, DET)
Hyun-Jin Ryu, LAD (ATL, WAS)
A VERY strong group this week... the best starter for the Dodgers has been Hyun-Jin Ryu and he gets two solid home starts. He's approaching must-start status if he's not that already... Blake Snell should be fine, his Royals start on April 24th was his first start back from his broken toe and he should be fine with two solid home starts this week... Charlie Morton has those same two starts and has been pretty quality this season. Continue to roll with him... Caleb Smith? He's armed with a one way ticket to "Studsville". I trust him in two solid road starts. At least 6 strikeouts and a quality start in his last 4 starts, sign me up!
SOLID
Cole Hamels, CHC (MIA, MIL)
Walker Buehler, LAD (ATL, WAS)
Masahiro Tanaka, NYY (SEA, @TB)
Collin McHugh, HOU (KC, TEX)
Max Fried, ATL (@LAD, @ARI)
Jon Lester, CHC (MIA, MIL)
Marcus Stroman, TOR (MIN, CHW)
Cole Hamels and Jon Lester are one in the same for me this week, a tough Milwaukee start and a home Miami start you can hang your hat on to get your value back... Marcus Stroman has been excellent throughout 2019 so far, even though the W-L record may not reflect that, but hey, that's why we have statistics, right? Minnesota leads the Junior Circuit in Home Runs thus far and Stroman has not allowed a home run in the early going. Something must give... Walker Buehler has not been his 2018 self but that said, he should regress to the mean and with two solid home starts, he has a chance to get the ship righted this week.
BORDERLINE
Jhoulys Chacin, MIL (WAS, @CHC)
Robbie Ray, ARI (@TB, ATL)
Anthony DeSclafani, CIN (SF, @SF)
Vince Velasquez, PHI (@STL, @KC)
Aaron Sanchez, TOR (MIN, CHW)
Mike Minor, TEX (@PIT, @HOU)
Griffin Canning, LAA (@DET, @BAL)
Martin Perez, MIN (@TOR, DET)
Tyler Mahle, CIN (@OAK, @SF)
Merrill Kelly, ARI (@TB, ATL)
Mike Foltynewicz, ATL (@LAD, @ARI)
Marco Gonzales, SEA (@NYY, @BOS)
Miles Mikolas, STL (PHI, PIT)
Marco Gonzales is a fine pitcher and has been pretty serviceable so far in 2019, but in New York and Boston this week? In the words of Randy Jackson, "That's gotta be a no for me, dawg."... Tyler Mahle hasn't been completely terrible with his stats in a vacuum, but he's gotten absolutely terrible run support. That said, on the cheap, his two start this week are really good... Miles Mikolas may just be a one year wonder, as he has not recaptured the magic of his 18-4 season last year. Two home starts but he should be faded in most leagues. Not sure how he can be trusted unless you're absolutely desperate for starts...
