Start/Sit: Week 4

With Week 3 in the books, it’s time to make those weekly decisions on who to start and sit for Week 4. Anyone can start their studs but where match-ups are won and lost is with those mid-level decisions. Here at Fighting Chance Fantasy Matt Miles (@DirtyAirFC) https://x.com/DirtyAirFC and Leo Grandio (@smooth1074) https://x.com/smooth1074 will be giving you some weekly Start and Sit options to help guide you to a win, and hopefully a championship at season’s end. So crack open your favorite adult beverage, sit back, and relax because here we go!

Start

Quarterbacks

Jayden Daniels - Washington Commanders

Jayden Daniels is rewarding fantasy managers who drafted him this season. Daniels has five total touchdowns in three games so far this season. He faces Arizona in Week 4 who are allowing the 10th most fantasy points to quarterbacks this season. The dual threat rookie should continue to ride the tide this week versus the Cardinals, and so should you.

Sam Darnold – Minnesota Vikings

From seeing ghosts on Monday Night a few years ago to leading the NFL in touchdown passes in 2024, Sam Darnold has been a remarkable story. Darnold is also tied for eighth in EPA per play at 14. The Vikings get their division rival Green Bay, who are a bit padded on stats after facing Indianapolis and Tennessee. Green Bay gave up 34 points to Philadelphia and recorded only a sack Week 1. Look for Darnold to keep performing in Week 4.

Running Backs

Chuba Hubbard - Carolina Panthers

Chuba Hubbard had a breakout performance in Week 3 when he blew up for 169 totals yards, five receptions, and a touchdown. Now with the Bengals on decks, Hubbard should continue his positive production for fantasy managers, since Cincinnati are a middle of the pack defense and have allowed multiple running backs to have double-digits fantasy points every week.

JK Dobbins – Los Angles Chargers

JK Dobbins quietly broke the tie between himself and Gus Edwards last week, with Dobbins taking a 65% snap share to Edwards 35%. Dobbins has the third most rushing yards in the NFL after three weeks with 310, behind only Saquan Barkley and Jordan Mason. This could be the pop-week for Dobbins against Kansas City.

Wide Receiver

Rome Odunze - Chicago Bears

Did Rome Odunze just seize WR1 duty with the Bears last week? Well when you 11 targets and produce six receptions for 112 yards and a touchdown that just could be the case. With Keenan Allen still dealing with a nagging injury Odunze should lead the Bears in receiving once again in Week 4 since he will face the Rams who allow the third-most fantasy points to wide receivers and just allowed Jauan Jennings look like Jerry Rice. Fire up Odunze as a WR3/Flex play in deeper leagues. Just monitor his status heading into Sunday since he is dealing with a slight hip injury.

Khalil Shakir – Buffalo Bills

Khalil Shakir is a PPR Slot machine tied to the number one quarterback in fantasy right now. Shakir, going back to last season has caught 27 consecutive targets. Shakir is this year’s Amon-Ra St. Brown, a player who just grabs passes and runs like hell. You’re starting him regardless of matchup.

Tight Ends

Dalton Kincaid - Buffalo Bills

Dalton Kincaid has his targets steadily on the rise and finally produce a useful game for fantasy managers in Week 3. Kincaid brought in three receptions for 41 yards and a touchdown on five targets. In Week 4 Kincaid will his chance to light up a Ravens defense that has faltered and allow tight ends to have 17 receptions and 209 yards over their last two games.

Isaiah Likely – Baltimore Ravens

I fully expect that this call could end up on Fantasy Receipts, but honestly, that’s fine. It’s a gut call here, but Baltimore hosts Buffalo in what’s likely shaping up to be a similar game to the Ravens matchup with Kansas City week 1. The Bills play 2 high safeties at the 3rdhighest rate in the NFL. Kansas City plays 2 high at the second highest rate in the NFL. I’m expecting the Ravens will go 12 personnel with 2 tight ends. When everyone is out on Dobbins, I am penciling him in as Likely having a monster game vs Buffalo at home week 4.

Defense

Houston Texans

After getting rolled over by Minnesota in Week 3, the Houston Texans Defense will look to get back on track with the Jaguars coming to town. The Jaguars offense has been putrid so far this season and have only scored four touchdowns in three games.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Los Angeles Chargers host the 3-0 Kansas City Chiefs and last week, the Pittsburgh Steelers stonewalled the Chargers with five sacks and just 10 points. Look for a similar story with the Chargers bad O-line and weak offense.

Sit

Quarterbacks

Anthony Richardson - Indianapolis Colts

The thought of benching Anthony Richardson this week must have fantasy managers a little tormented. Many drafted Richardson with high hopes and aspirations of hoisting a championship at season’s end and that still may be the case but this week one must consider sitting Richardson this week. The second-year quarterback has a tough match-up against the Steelers who are allowing the second-fewest fantasy points to quarterbacks this season and has yet to allow a team score more than 10 points.

Aaron Rodgers – New York Jets

Patrick Surtan and the Broncos are the second rated defensive unit through three weeks of play. They will host Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. Rodgers under pressure started the season in last with an abysmal 8.6 rating. To his credit, the Patriots threw everything they could at Rodgers and he ended with a solid 115.7 rating. The Patriots Blitz and the Broncos blitz are two different worlds, though and Rodgers will have defenders in his teeth all game long.

Running Backs

Josh Jacobs - Green Bay Packers

It may be difficult to bench Josh Jacobs since you used high draft capital last month, but you may want to consider it. Not only does Jacobs have a tough game ahead versus the Vikings who are allowing the fifth-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season, but Emmanuel Wilson has steadily seen his touches increase as the season has progressed. If you have to start him temper those expectations because it may not be pretty.

Kenneth Walker III / Zach Charbonnet – Seattle Seahawks

This sit call does have a caveat: If just Zach Charbonnet is starting, then its not wise to sit him. However, if Walker comes back, it will likely be a limited role and that limited role will eat into Zach Charbonnet’s stat line. Either way, the Lions have been solid on run defense not allowing a 100 yard rusher yet this season.

Wide Receivers

Garret Wilson - New York Jets

If you are rostering Garrett Wilson you will want to consider benching him and looking elsewhere for someone else to start. This week Wilson will go up against Patrick Surtain Jr. who has locked down opposing WR1 every week. The  Broncos are allowing just 133 yards passing per game and only one receiving touchdown so far in 2024.

Courtland Sutton – Denver Broncos

Courtland Sutton is Bo Nix’s Go to! “It doesn’t matter!” As The Rock once said. Sauce Gardner comes to town, and the Jets Defense is top ranked in sacks during pass attempts. Will Lutz is a better start on the Broncos this week.

Tight Ends

Hunter Henry - New England Patriots

Just when we wanted to trust Hunter Henry and inserted him into our lineups last week we got screwed once again. After teasing us with a breakout game in Week 2, Henry cripples our team with two receptions for nine yards. Now he tangles with the 49ers defense who allow the least amount of fantasy points to tight ends this season. Start another tight end this week and thank me later.

Cole Kmet– Chicago Bears

Much like my Isaiah Likely call, this is a gut call that could get me on Fantasy Receipts. Here’s why I am making the call the Cole Kmet is a potential sit this week. Yes, the Rams are BAD against the pass, ranking in the bottom four in every passing defensive stat. Yet all of those bad passing stats have come against wideouts, not tight ends. Especially if Keenan Allen is healthy, the Rams won’t likely be able to cover Allen, D.J. Moore, and Rome Odunze.

Defense

Seattle Seahawks

After three favorable match-ups to start the season, the Seattle Seahawks defense will get their first tough game of the season. They will travel to Detroit to battle the formidable Lions. Try to stream another defense because the Seahawks will be a let down this week.

Minnesota Vikings

This is a bit of an odd call, but if Jordan Love is back this week, I’d look elsewhere for a defense. If love is a bit off in a return, the Vikings have allowed the 9th most fantasy points to tight ends, offering check-down opportunities.
